Facial Hair Removal For Women: Waxing
Tips
Both men and women need to remove hair, from similar body areas, including the face. The quantity and quality
of the hair may differ but at the end of the day, what counts is that the wish (in many cases the need) to remove
it is still the same.
So it comes as no surprise that enormous amounts of money is being spent each year in the beauty industry- and
specifically the hair removal segment - to ensure that there are various ways to get rid of unwanted facial
hair.
From the point of view of women and girls, no matter what age, the chances are that she will not want to have
facial hair. But it does happen and it does happen a lot. It could be one or two individual growths on the chin, or
it could be much more. It may be around the eyebrows, the cheeks or the upper lip, the end result is that it has to
be removed, or at best, disguised.
A women´s looks has always been a subject of conversation and so it is a huge industry that includes fashion,
hair styles, make-up and much more, and hair removal fits in quite naturally and will continue to do so. It is a
subject that never fails to be present at talks between friends and facial hair removal is one of the most
important topics.
We live in a society where facial hair in women is just not on. Therefore, to avoid the questioning looks and
negative comments, we should strive to ensure that women´s faces are as smooth as the proverbial baby´s bottom.
Facial Hair Removal: Waxing, Plucking, Shaving or Laser and
Electrolysis
Waxing is typically applied to the legs and even the bikini line, but as a method for facial hair removal it
does not enjoy a good reputation for the simple reason that the face is a delicate and sensitive area that demands
extra care and needs greater protection than the rest of the body.
Yet facial hair removal is possible and there are methods both practical and efficient. How you do it, the
method you choose, is very important especially as we are dealing with the face - if anything goes wrong, perhaps a
reaction to a cream, it will be highly noticeable.
The choice of method (plucking and tweezing, threading, even shaving, electrolysis, laser hair removal, and yes,
waxing) will depend of how much hair you are talking about.
Plucking, both for the eyebrows (as long as the amount is not excessive) and
stray hairs is a great and practical alternative as well as inexpensive. Aside from being perhaps the oldest
method, it is just a question of simply stretching the skin, catching the individual hair and pulling against
the direction it grows. If done when the skin is warm it is even easier as the skin pores are open making
extraction easier.
Straight off, shaving facial hair for women should be
avoided. There is no need to go into details just try and avoid it.
Plucking, though the most popular method is not practical if the amount of hair is large.
Now we have canceled shaving as an alternative and seen the limitations of plucking, the question is what other
methods can you use.
Well there are the longer term options - electrolysis and laser hair removal. Both of these are being used with great results but
it does cost much more and sessions are often repeated and take time.
Facial Waxing Tips: (Not for individual stray hairs).
1. If it is the first time you use wax to remove hair, don't start on the face,
but practice on your legs or elsewhere. Your face is much more sensitive.
2. You should apply a thin layer of wax over a limited area.
3. You want the hair to be covered by the wax so just stretch the skin a little so the hair stands out.
4. For better results, be it on the face or elsewhere, you should pull off the wax in one smooth motion and
running it against the direction in which the hair comes out.
5. Any remaining stray hairs should be plucked with the use of tweezers.}
Eyebrows and Upper Lips
For Eyebrows:
Safety is always first so make sure no blobs or drops of wax fall on the eye.
You need to apply a thin layer of wax as space is limited.
Upper Lip:
Apply wax first on one side of the lip and then the other and keep to the simple common sense tips above.
Hair regrowth can be from 3 to 6 weeks when waxing as the hair has been removed from below the skin and with
continued application, as the hair follicle will weaken, the periods between waxing will be longer.
About Waxing Hair Removal
Waxing is used by many women world wide and that popularity shows it is effective.
Waxing can be done at home or in a beauty salon. You can easily find home waxing kits which are usually the
chosen method for leg hair removal for example. For facial hair, especially the first few times, you should
seriously think about going to a salon where experienced and professional service is the norm.
Wax alternatives can be cold or hot and additionally there are various home recipes for wax, some of which were
used over two thousand years ago.
For facial hair on the chin, face or upper lip, hot wax is normally recommended. The heated wax is spread on a
strip of cloth or other equivalent material. It is always best to check the temperature of the wax and always
assume it is hot. Place it on a small skin area to check the heat as the last thing anyone needs is a facial
burn.
Waxing means applying it to the appropriate area and removing the hair by pulling it out.
If you are waxing for the first time, it is best to pay a visit to a salon and have a professional do it for
you. Ask all the questions you can think of. When you're waxing at home read the instructions carefully and apply
it on a very small part of the arm before you embark on key areas.
The importance of trying a little wax first can not be overstated, because those who are known to have rashes
after waxing. Sometimes this may not be the result of a brand or a particular type of product from the specific wax
used - simply a reaction to wax and the process in general.
Another thing to note is that it is painful - after all you are pulling out the hair, not cutting it. The main
consideration is how much pain you can stand. Different people have different pain thresholds. If it is not for you
don´t wax - period.
After waxing, you won´t need to wax again for the next two to three weeks (and this period can go up to six
weeks in some people) depending on the thickness and growth rate of you hair.
Waxing Advantages and Disadvantages
Waxing has many advantages compared to
shaving:
1 - The hair will take up to 6 weeks to regrow..
2 - With repetition the hair follicles will be damaged so you will have a weaker and lesser amount of hair
regrowth. This also means that the regrowth period can become longer.
3 - The treatment leaves the skin smoother than with a razor as wax also provides a non-intended
ex-foliation.
Disadvantages of Waxing
1 - The first few times it hurts a little. But over time the pain is hardly felt.
2 - You must wait until the hair is a little too longer to remove it. This usually depends on the type of wax.
Hair usually needs to be about 1/4 to 1/2 inch long.
3 - Usually you need to go to a salon to have to have it done and this means time and money. It can also be done
at home but you must learn the technique and so you should think about having a professional waxing the first time
at least.
4 - it can cause a small amount of skin irritation at first. You must take this into account when waxing the
eyebrows just before going out.
5 - If the hair removal is not done carefully it can cause ingrown hairs.
Occasionally, the ingrown hair can become infected with bacteria that was previously on the skin, and not
because of the wax. In these cases, you should consult your doctor who will indicate the appropriate antibiotic
treatment. However, the risk of local infection can be reduced if you practice a good hygiene of the area the
waxing, and also avoid putting hot wax on injured areas of the skin.
Remember that the use of good technique of hair removal and proper processing of the wax are the most effective
measures to prevent any infection.
Waxing Process
Beauticians usually follow
these steps. The
procedure may differ depending on the wax used.
1 - Clean the area to be waxed.
2 - Apply the wax with a wooden spatula. The wax is applied in the direction of the hair. This is the critical
part, if the wax is not applied in the direction of the hair, the hair is not removed from the root grows and will
therefore reappear faster.
3 - Place the strip or band over the wax in the direction of the hair. Massaged it into place so it adheres to
the wax.
4 - Pull the fabric in the opposite direction of the hair growth. This must be done in a single moving to reduce
pain.
5 - You should apply an antiseptic cream and moisturizer on the area where you have removed hair.
