Shaving Pubic Hair and Why Do We Have Pubic Hair?

Shaving our pubic hair has been going on for a long time, and both men and women do it. The tips, guides and information here are directred to women, but can easily be used by men who also want to shave their pubic hair.

How To Shave Your Pubic Area For Women

While it may protect the delicate vulvar tissues its primary purpose today is seen as decorative.

If pubic hair had a major biological purpose, all women would have it, but it is not the case.

Women of some racial groups naturally have little or no pubic hair. They do not seem to suffer as a result.

Some say that pubic hair serves to collect the smell of women, and potential partners can check if she is ready for sex, to reproduce.

It is not exactly appropriate or a done thing to smell the genitals of our mates to see if they are willing to have sex (can you imagine what it would be like?). We can no longer catch their scent at any distance as this function has been lost. Pubic hair often serves more as a social function than a biological one.

Pubic hair is often seen as a symbol of femininity. A woman has pubic hair, a girl does not. A woman may feel more womanly knowing she has pubic hair. A girl's wish for pubic hair in many cases is so that she can see herself as a woman.

There may be many sexual benefits to trimming one's pubic hair, even if you do not remove it entirely.

Pubic hair when long and thick can completely cover the genitals of women and may create a barrier between her and genitalia. A woman who trims or shaves her pubic hair displays more of her genitals and sexuality

And What To Do About It. Pubic Hair Removal and Grooming

Pubic Grooming

Pubic hair grooming is the artistic expression of one's sexuality through: genital hair dyeing, shaving, removal of unwanted hair, painting or drawing on the skin, the reflections of color or embellishments.

Dyeing Your Pubic Hair

To dye pubic hair you start out by using the same creams as for body hair dyeing. Then you die it with a permanent dye or use dyes that are removed by washing and are usually sold with a little brush applicator (if you do not, you can use a toothbrush). Most of these dyes stain the clothing when placed in contact with them.

Plucking Your Pubic Hair

To remove hair sticking out of the bikini or to better yet to shape the top edge of the pubic mound, is usually done by using wax or shaving. You can also use tweezers to remove hairs that appear on the navel.
Sometimes, if you use wax, some hair curls under the skin turning into an ingrown hair, producing a small abscess that can become infected if not treated properly. It is best to remove it with a disinfected pin.
If you opt for using a razor, you can give yourself small cuts that should also be disinfected. These cuts may be an avenue of access to sexually transmitted diseases.

The Origins Of Pubic Hair Removal

• The ancient Egyptians removed the pubic hair with razor or a mixture of sugar and beeswax, believing it gave them a more beautiful, young and innocent look. The ancient Greeks and Romans also liked to go without body hair.

• In ancient India, a shaved chest and pubic hair was the thing.

• During the Middle Ages, European high classes shaved off body hair and in the fourteenth century the European aristocracy shaved their pubic hair and wore pubic hair wigs.

• In the Renaissance, artists portrayed women with little or no pubic hair.

• At the beginning of S. XVIII, the first depilatories were made from egg shells, cat litter and vinegar.

Pubic Hair Removal In All Its Simplicity

For women who just want to trim their pubic hair does it does not require any special technique or skill.
A comb and a pair of scissors are all the tools you need.
An electric or battery operated shaver can cut hair quickly to a uniform length. It takes only seconds. You can slowly trim your pubic hair shorter and shorter until satisfied with the way it looks. You can use an electric shaver to remove all the hair if you choose not to shave with a razor. This is perhaps a wise choice for the beginner because it does not cut the hair below the skin surface. While you will not feel as smooth as a baby, you are shaving for all practical purposes.

Shaving Pubic Hair

How to Shave Your Pubic Hair

Shaving can be a difficult exercise for the beginner, not so much because of the process, but because of the after effects.

Women often complain of the irritation and itching that occurs. many women who have heard others share their shaving experiences are often understandably reluctant to shave. The likely cause for these adverse side effects is doing too much too soon.

The first time anyone shaves they usually make the mistake of going immediately into a full shave. This is quite hard for the delicate tissues of the vulva. The skin is not used to the irritations associated with shaving.

Any woman who decides to shave needs to recognize that it will be an adventure with some risk. Almost all women who shave say it took time to get used to shaving their bodies until they found a technique that worked well. While some women may find they can shave without difficulty, most of them are not so lucky. For this reason a woman should only shave if she is sure she wants to and is willing to experiment and tolerate some mild discomfort at first.

This is not something a woman should do as a one-time event, mainly because each time it is easier. If they do, should be a very special event to justify the discomfort they may experience afterward.

Some Tips For Women Interested In Shaving Their Pubic Area:

  • Do It A Step At A Time:

Unless it is very important for you to surprise your partner, do not go from a full bush to being totally exposed once. Start by just trimming the hair a little shorter each week. Once the hair is short in its entirety, start shaving the outer labia. The outer labia seem to tolerate shaving better. More or less the next week start making the patch of short hair on her pubic mound smaller and smaller by trimming and shaving. If you start noticing irritation, do not remove additional hair until the irritation subsides. This is done by experimenting with different strokes of the razor, shaving creams and different gels, different types of razors, different clothing, etc.., It may take you a little time to get used to the shaved skin, because the razor is likely to remove the outer layer of skin removing hair below the skin resulting in irritation and ingrown hairs. Some women may find they can not shave their pubic mound, and as a result only trim the hair there very short.

  • It takes time.

Initially you should expect to spend thirty to sixty minutes each time you groom your pubic region. If you go for a full pubic hair removal, plan for a couple of hours. Once you and your body are accustomed to shaving, if you do it every day or every other day, it will only take you a couple minutes to shave the pubic area.

  • Each time you shave make sure you are using a new blade.

Pubic hair dulls the blades very quickly. Unless you are into self-torture never use the same blade for leg shaving and then to your pubic area. If you use an electric razor, make sure your blades are not old.

  • Use a good razor.

Perhaps one with special blades and pivoting head. Some women's razors now have wide handles so you have more area to grip. You need to try several to find one that works well. Buy every type of disposable you find at your local store and try them all.

  • Start using plenty of shaving foam or gel.

Apply a new layer of foam or gel after each pass with the razor. You need some lubrication between your delicate skin and the blade of the razor. Use those intended for sensitive skin. Menthol or eucalyptus may make your skin tingle, but may eventually help soothe the vulva. (If they start to burn, rinse right away).

  • Shave in the evening.

This is the best time as you can remain naked or wearing just a shirt or after sleep gown. Once you get used to shaving in the shower you can do it in the morning and in a couple of minutes.

  • At first discard tight clothing, if not always.

Your sensitive skin will not be able to tolerate anything rubbing against it after the outer layer of skin has been removed . You should not wear clothes that allow the fabric rub your vulva. Wear dresses and skirts. Do not wear panties, wear boxers instead or anything loose. If you can, stay without underwear. The elastics in your panties may irritate your bikini line. Tight jeans are not a good idea. Not wearing panties will probably feel quite strange in the beginning and can be hard not to think about it. This has a positive side to it as you become more aware of your sexuality. You will soon get used to feeling naked and exposed.

  • Soak in a hot bath or take a hot shower before shaving.

This softens the hair and makes it easier to cut. You should keep this in mind whenever you care for your pubic region.

  • After shaving sleep nude or only with a nightgown, socks are fine.

Do not wear pants or shorts. Nothing should rub your sensitive vulva while sleeping. If you use protective devices, just sleep over a couple of old towels.

  • Do not go for a full shave at first. Do not tighten the skin.

Pass the blade softly and then go to the next area. Do not remove all hair, and this will reduce the possibility of skin irritation. With each subsequent shaving more hair will be removed. Go slow and be gentle.

  • Stretch the skin with one hand while you shave with the other.

This is particularly true close to the lips. The groove next to your clitoris may be hard to shave and you will need a little practice.

  • Shave in the direction of hair growth.

This usually means down on your pubic mound and diagonally near your outer labia. Just observe the pattern of hair growth after you cut your hair short. Some experienced women shave against the growth of hair but only after shaving in the hair growth direction and after applying a fresh layer of shaving gel or foam. This produces a very flush shaven. This may not be a good idea for the beginner.

  • Shave every other day at first.

Women often report that does not begin to itch until their hair starts to grow. Shave every other day and use light strokes. Do not go for a full shave initially. Once you have had sufficient practice and your skin gets used it, continue to shave every other day or daily. If you want to shave your vulva you shouldn't´t do it occasionally, but constantly as otherwise the irritation will drive you crazy.

  • After shaving, apply lotion to your vulva as it soothes the skin.

Be careful of scents or other additives that can irritate your delicate skin. Baby oil may lubricate the skin and can decrease the friction. The same thing goes with baby powder, but the small particles are bad for the vulva and vagina, so use sparingly. There are creams designed to mitigate the irritation caused by shaving, and though the may be expensive, but it can be worthwhile for the beginner.

  • Use a stand up mirror and a good light so you can see what you are doing.

Unless you are unusually flexible you will not see your entire vulva without them - and you may regret doing it blind.

  • Some women recommend using a loofah (vegetable sponge) the days they do not shave, when you bathe or shower.

Gently rub for and against the hair growth. This removes dead skin and helps to keep the hair follicles softer, reducing the chance of ingrown hairs.

Other Pubic Hair Removal Methods

Many women want to know if there is another way to remove pubic hair besides shaving. There are, but shaving is the most common method used.

  • The only effective way to remove pubic hair permanently is still electrolysis but it is very expensive.
  • The current lasers only remove hair temporarily, but with repeated sessions they will eliminate some or all of the hair. The laser costs at least U $ S 300 just for the bikini line.
  • Some women use wax that removes hair for longer periods of time and leaves the skin smoother. Wax is often a cumbersome process, if not painful.

Creams, Plucking And Depilatories For Pubic Hair Removal

Some women use caustic creams to remove hair, many of these developed in years past in Europe and Asia. Some women actually pluck a hair at a time. This is less painful than you´d think, and it gets easier with time. I guess it's a mesmerizing and relaxing habit. Some women use depilatory chemicals but these can burn the delicate tissues of the vulva and extreme care should be taken. If someone invents a cheap and quick to remove the pubic hair, I'm sure many women will be queuing up to remove some if not all of their pubic hair.

Razors and Pubbic Hair Shaving

It's the classical method for its ease of use, it does not require a lot of time and you don´t have to visit a "professional hair stylist". I do. In the shower, with water or shaving cream and you can go as far as you want.
The problem is that in a week (or less) the hair is back and you have to start all over again. In addition, each time the hair feels harder ... Another thing is that when the hair begins to row and appears above the skin and it itches, really itches and on top of that you will spend the day scratching your intimate area.

Waxing Pubic Hair

It lasts 3-4 weeks and every time their will be less hair and what does regrow will take longer. A luxury if you can endure the pain and have sufficient time off for a "professional hair stylist" to your intimate areas with a wooden spoon dripping with boiling wax and then ripping of the offending hair (and what sometimes feels like pieces of skin).

The vaginal area is very delicate and though many women swear by this method (Brazilian bikini wax enthusiasts, for example) others fin dit suitable only for hooligans and Spartans. If you are easily embarrassed then forget it as you have to expose your intimate areas.

Pubic Laser Hair Removal

It is a permanent hair reduction method (a permanent hair removal method is still only electrolysis) that works best on women with light skin and dark hair. It can, in time remove up to 80% of the hair, so there is a 20% that stays there and is never removed, requiring more sessions later on.

The main reason for the need to receive various laser sessions is that hair grows in stages, but each hair is at a different growth stage at any one time. In short a session will work on hairs that are in the right growth stage.

Laser hair removal (pubic or wherever) is becoming more common and more effective.

Studies by dermatologists has shown that it is of a non-invasive nature, that is not harmful to health, and the results, in most cases are permanent.

An intense light is emitted through a quartz filter. This light is absorbed by the melanin in the bulb and the hair shaft.

This will destroy the hair follicles (skin structure which houses the hair), preventing their new reappearance and keeping the skin intact. Any type of hair and skin can be treated, although the results of hair removal are more effective in people with fair skin and dark hair.

But thanks to technological advances, experts in this system can adapt the parameters of wavelength, intensity and pulse duration depending on the characteristics of each patient, thereby achieving optimal results.

One of the best things about this hair removal system is that hair regrowth takes place over a much longer period of time, and in many cases can be permanent due to the damage done to the hair follicle. Another of its advantages is that it can be applied in sensitive body areas like the armpits, chest, belly ... Furthermore, this method does not leave marks or scars.

Hair removal with this method is a gradual process, so that a single session is not enough. Each appointment with a dermatologist or esthetician will repeat the laser treatment, and as a result of each session you will have less hair growth, and what does reappear will be weaker. It usually takes 4 to 6 sessions, though this depends on the characteristics of the person and the treatment area.

Although this treatment is not entirely painless, it requires no anesthesia (but if you prefer you can request a topical one). The only thing you feel is a minor annoyance as the light passes down the area being treated. Laser hair removal can be performed at any time of year.

For greater effectiveness, experts advise that two weeks before the treatment the skin should not been exposed to the sun.
