Removal of Facial Hair In Women
By Libbits Rankin
When a women has noticeable facial her, she will find a way to either disguise or remove it. It usually depends on the extent of the hair and the color.
Many women lighten the color so that it doesn't stand out. This is normally done when the hair is located by the side of the upper lips, when they have a light mustache. Or when they have some hair on their cheeks, below the ear.
However when the hair appears around the chin, or when its growth is continuos and the hair grows long, even if it doesn't cover the same extent of the face as a man's beard, women will do something about it.
We all have facial hair, both men and women. We are born with hair in different parts of the body, including the face; but it is hardly noticeable. A very slight fuzz that doesn't attract attention.
When men grow facial hair, it makes them feel good about themselves. It is a sign of growing up.
When women have facial hair, they feel bad about themselves. They become self conscious and dislike it intensely. They naturally seek for ways to eliminate or at least camouflage facial hair.
Women with extreme facial hair (extreme in this sense meaning range of hair going from noticeable to unavoidably calling attention to itself), need to remove it. The causes could be hereditary, as a result of anorexia or hirsutism.
It is a good idea to identify the underlying reasons behind the growth.
If hereditary, then it is a family trait and advise from women relatives is a great starting point.
Anorexia can be the cause of extra body hair growth as the debilitating effects of malnutrition often cause hair growth as a survival mechanism the body develops to reduce loss of body heat. Definitely seek treatment, as removing hair, facial or otherwise is only dealing with the symptoms but not the cause.
If the cause is hirsutism, which is an illness where excessive male hormones are being produced, also visit seek professional advise from a doctor.
Whatever the cause maybe, and so long as you seek the appropriate treatment if required, facial hair removal is possible.
When seeking to find the best method for removing facial hair, women should take into account various factors prior to making the choice.
- Above all, she must have a clear understanding of the cause. We cannot stress enough, the need for professional medical opinion as explained above.
- Available options, and recommendations
- Ease of use
- Pain threshold
- On going cost
- Risks and after effects.
- The extent of growth. If she has a few individual hairs on her chin or around her face, a good option is plucking.
In fact most women who remove facial hair do so by plucking, followed by waxing, or electrolysis.
Fewer women actually shave. The main reason is the misguided idea that shaving strengthens the hair growth, which is unfortunate as it is probably the simplest method, with lower costs and very easy to do. Having said that, I can´t imagine the idea of a six o´clock shadow tempting any women.
What happens is that the hair that is cut, is dead. Sounds terrible doesn't it? The hair shaft that we see is inert and this is the one we cut. The follicle that is below the surface of the skin is alive, but shaving doesn't touch it.
The illusion of increased growth is a matter of perception. We don't notice a change from one week to the next in long hair, we do if we see a shaved head. It is as simple as that.
Today women have many practical options to choose from, and the choice for facial hair removal will depend on the amount of hair and the underlying reason for its presence. If it relates to a few strays, the options are quite easy; if on the other hand the reasons are medical, the choice has to be guided by the chosen professional in the medical field.
