Leg and Arm Hair Removal
Now-a-days leg hair removal, arm and underarm hair removal, is practiced by both many men and women.
But traditionally, at least since the early twentieth century, hair removal in these areas belonged to the realm
of womanhood.
Athletes, typically swimmers, but others as well such as cyclists and wrestlers, of both sexes, remove hair from
their legs and arms.
Western women today practice hair removal from some part of their body, the most common being from their legs
and under arms. There are exceptions of course, usually as a statement of some sort, but also due to skin reactions
or medical reasons or just a basic lack of concern.
Whatever the reasons anyone can have to remove hair from their legs, arms or under arms, it is safe to say it is
a common practice.
And why not?
Removing Leg and Under Arm Hair
Removing leg and under arm hair usually begins in the early teenage years and continues onwards. Along
the way most women try out different methods. The first hair removal exercise is usually by shaving, and with a
little practice they become very proficient. In time waxing, for the legs at least, is tried out.
I, for one, don't dare wax my underarms.
- The act of shaving is painless although subject to the risks of an unsteady hand causing cuts
and nicks. However there is the risk of rashes, skin irritation and ingrown hairs. But if done carefully,
soaking the area in warm water beforehand, applying plenty of lather and only shaving where there is lather, as
well as applying cold cream afterwards, there should be no problems. Alternatively some people use electric
shavers with great results.
- Waxing can cause pain, to different degrees depending on the pain tolerance threshold of the
individual, but it does provide a longer lasting, smooth skin.
The next stage usually begins with the search for longer lasting results. Shaving is a short term option and
waxing a slightly longer term one. Chemicals in the form of creams or lotions are sometimes used.
More lasting solutions tend to have a direct relation to an increase in costs.
This is when lasering and electrolysis is tried out.
Whatever the choice you make, and there are many people who have great results with any of these methods, just
do it carefully.
